How to choose a motorcycle helmet that suits you?
A qualified motorcycle rider, when getting on his bike and getting ready to go, should first ask himself, where are the helmet and gloves?
As the most basic configuration for motorcycle riding, the helmet is the core of safe riding.
Faced with a wide range of motorcycle helmet products, how to choose a motorcycle helmet that suits you is a question that many junior motorcycle riders are most concerned about. Below, I will talk to you in detail about how to choose a motorcycle helmet that suits you (hereinafter referred to as "motorcycle helmet" or "helmet").
1. Full helmet, half helmet or three-quarter helmet?
From the perspective of the area of the helmet covering the head, or from the helmet type, helmets are mainly divided into three types: full helmet, half helmet, and three-quarter helmet.
Full helmet, as shown in the figure below, can wrap the head to the maximum extent, and in the event of an accident, it has the most comprehensive protection, so it has the highest safety factor.
The disadvantage is: it will be very hot to wear in summer, especially when waiting for traffic lights (because there is a wind duct when riding, it is not particularly hot when the wind blows);
Half helmet, as shown in the picture below, is also called "scoop helmet", which only covers the upper head. It is easy to wear, not too hot in summer, and does not take up too much space in the motorcycle trunk.
Disadvantages are: 1. The head is wrapped too little, cannot protect the cheeks and chin, and it is easy to throw the helmet out in the moment of falling, causing the head to be exposed, so the protection is very poor. 2. Need to buy goggles or lenses separately
The three-quarter helmet, as shown in the figure below, is a transitional helmet type between a full-face helmet and a half-face helmet. We can say that this helmet combines the strengths of the other two helmets, or we can say that it combines the weaknesses of the other two helmets.
The characteristics of the three-quarter helmet are: 1. The safety is between the full-face helmet and the half-face helmet; 2. It is not too hot to wear in summer, and it blows your chin in winter;
In addition, there is another type of helmet that is worth mentioning: the flip-up helmet.
The flip-up helmet has the length of a full-face helmet and a three-quarter helmet. When the mask is buckled, the covering area is the same as that of a full-face helmet. When it is hot, the mask can be lifted up, which is very convenient. It is my personal favorite type of helmet.
The structure of the flip-up helmet is more complicated than that of an ordinary full-face helmet, and it needs to be opened and closed very conveniently, so the manufacturing process is more demanding. Under the same safety performance requirements, the flip-up helmet requires more technology to ensure. For example, how to ensure that the mask will not fall off during a collision is something that the flip-up helmet needs to consider more than the full-face helmet.
Summary: Among the above four types of helmets, in terms of safety, full-face helmet ≥ flip-up helmet > three-quarter helmet > half helmet.
